Motivated by applications in fraud detection, this dissertation is concerned about model selection in predictive models where the correct ranking of observations has to be predicted. For this, the thesis starts by proving the asymptotic linearity of a whole family of regularized M-estimators which covers for example the Lasso. With the algorithm ''SingBoost'' developed in this dissertation, we succeed in providing a Gradient Boosting algorithm as an extension of L2-Boosting, even though the loss function is non-continuous. We prove: This algorithm has analogous consistency properties as L2-Boosting. As to stable model selection, we develop a loss-based Stability Selection. In combination with this Stability Selection, SingBoost strictly improves the performance for the hard ranking problem on simulated data. The loss-based Stability Selection that we provide is universally applicable, i.e., for arbitrary loss functions.

Variable Length Markov Chains (VLMC) are a subclass of Markov processes. They are able to fully display dependencies in time-homogeneous data while being less complex than a Markov process of sufficiently large order. But VLMC fail to meet requirements of insurance applications, e.g. they cannot display time-dependencies in a natural way. In order to meet those requirements we extend the concept of VLMC and introduce a new class of models: time-inhomogeneous Variable Length Markov Chains (tiVLMC). We propose and implement a fitting algorithm for tiVLMC within an uncensored and a censored data setting. The calculation of prospective reserves is discussed and we train and tune tiVLMC-models on two real life data sets. We also develop smoothing procedures for tiVLMC-models that ensure their interpretability.
Technology plays a special functional role in and for the capitalist production process. In it, technology and its specific level of development has a direct effect on the way and what is produced and consumed, and the forms of consciousness that arise from the material basis of society. In addition to the technical and material consideration of production, what is of particular interest in the analysis of capitalist society is how and to what extent technology affects the movements and metamorphoses of capital in the process of exploitation. The content of the work will therefore focus particularly on Das Kapital. Kritik der politischen Ökonomie and the preliminary work by Karl Marx. At the end of the thesis, didactic considerations are made on the topic.
