In this thesis, one-dimensional electro-acoustic models of the ear are used in order to improve two dif-ferent applications, the young infant’s middle ear screening and the feedback cancellation in hearing aids. For the application of the middle ear screening, a model of the ear canal and the middle ear is presented that is adapted to the young infant. This model is used to investigate the influences of physiological prop-erties of the ear and frequent pathological middle ear conditions on acoustic immittance quantities measurable in the ear canal. For the application of adaptive feedback cancellation, an approach that relies on a position-based view of the acoustic feedback path is presented. Advantages and disadvantages of this approach compared to a classical position-independent approach are pointed out and discussed using measured feedback paths.
