<dt.>
The hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) allows the production of a coal-like product called hydrochar in just a few hours from almost every biogenic waste. Thus, it copies and accelerates the natural process of coalification. In order to optimize the process and to construct reactors based on scientific knowledge, modeling the HTC process is important. For this, aside from the kinetics, also the thermodynamics have to be known. In addition, dependencies of parameters and causal relationships are key to the further development of this technically relatively simple but chemically complex process. In this dissertation the dependencies for different parameters of the HTC of biomass from landscape management are regarded and novel approaches of modeling are presented. A method to predict the heat of reaction is developed by using "carbonization vectors". With the extensive chapter "state of the art", the results can be understood in the context of the overall development of the technology. <engl.>
<dt.>
The focus of current research in the field of polymer-electrolyte fuel cells (PEMFCs) are membrane systems that operate above 140 °C with low external humidification. This leads to improved performance and lifetime of the PEMFCs. Composite membranes are particularly promising. These consist of a proton conductive polymer whose properties are improved by additives. In the present work different mesoporous silicas, which inner surfaces are functionalized with sulfonic acid groups, and metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are examined for their proton conductivity and their suitability as additives. In the case of the silica materials, the focus is on new solid proton conductors, which all possess the same global mesostructure but differ in terms of pore system and diameter. In the field of MOFs, the focus is on the analysis of the water sorption capacity and the modification of the pores with ionic liquid. <engl.>
<dt.>
The objective of this work was the validation of Cu as a low priced co-catalyst material in comparison to the frequently used noble metal co-catalysts Rh, Au and Pt, as well as the evaluation of alternative sacrificial agents for photocatalytic H2 production. An effective conversion of glycerol was a primary aim of this work, due to its abundance as a coproduct of the bio fuel production. Furthermore, photocatalysts were prepared, which are capable to absorb light from the visible range of the light spectrum. The required band gap reduction was realized by cation doping. In the course of the cation doping process Cu2+, Cr3+, Fe3+ and Mn3+ cations were incorporated by a sol-gel synthesis route into the crystal lattice of the layered Cs0.68Ti1.83O4, which was used as a photocatalyst material. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared photocatalysts was investigated in a self constructed test setup under the irradiation of a xenon arc lamp. <engl.>
